Side-chain Reactivities.—Several papers quantitatively treating the influence of the thiophen ring on side-chain reactivity have appeared. The reaction of 5-substituted 2-thenoyl chlorides with aniline in benzene follows second-order kinetics. The values of the Hammett p-constants are greater than that for the benzoylation reaction, indicating that the thiophen nucleus is more efficient than the benzene ring in relaying the electronic effects of the substituent to the reaction centre. The rate of the reaction of 3-thenoyl chloride and of thiophen-2-sulphonyl chloride with substituted anilines has also been studied, and the Hammett equation applied to the rate... [Pg.430]

The reaction of ethyl thiophen-2-carboxylate with triphenylphosphine-CCI4 gave (159), which upon acidic hydrolysis afforded the dichloromethyl ketone. 2-Thenoyl chloride reacts with some piperazine derivatives. Trimethylsilyldiazomethane has been used as a safe reagent in the Arndt-Eistert reaction for the transformation of 2-thenoyl chloride into benzyl 2-thienylacetate. ... [Pg.103]

In the second class of synthesis two thiophene rings become joined through a carbon atom that is already a substituent of one of them by this means symmetrically and unsymmetrically substituted products in the 2,2, 2,3, and 3,3 series are available. Three main reaction types have been employed in this approach. In one of these a thiophene is alkylated with a thenyl halide (Eq. 3). Friedel-Crafts acylation of a thiophene by a thenoyl chloride or thenoic acid followed by reduction of the resulting dithienyl ketone provides a second route in this category. The last and most versatile synthesis in this class involves reaction of a thienyllithium (or Grignard reagent) with a thienylaldehyde or thienyl ketone reduction of the carbinol (see Eq. 2) then gives the dithienylalkane. [Pg.86]

A number of 2,2-thenoylamino acid methyl esters has been prepared from 2-thenoyl chloride, 5-bromo-2-thenoyl chloride and... [Pg.102]

Docosanedioic acid has been prepared by Wolff-Kishner reduction of 6,17-diketodocosanedioic acid, formed by reaction of the half-ester acid chloride of adipic acid with the a,co-cadmium derivative of decane (%26 overall yield).3 Reduction of Wolff-Kishner method, followed by simultaneous reduction and desulfurization with Raney nickel of the 2,5-bis(co-carboxyoctyl)thiophene pro-... [Pg.38]

The combination of [IrCl(cod)Cl]2 complex with P(t-Bu)3 efficiently catalyzes aromatic homologation using internal alkyne [70]. For example, the reaction of benzoyl chloride 153 with 4-octyne 154 afforded 1,2,3,4-tetrapropylnaphthalene 155 (Equation 10.41). The reaction with 2-thenoyl and 2-naphthoyl chlorides also affords benzothiophene and anthracene, respectively, in high yields. The reaction would proceed as follows (Scheme 10.9) (i) oxidative addition of aroyl chloride... [Pg.270]

Thus, all possible acyl derivatives of the three ferrocenyl chalcogenols and the three l,l -ferrocenylene dichalcogenols (E = S, Se, Te) have been obtained [89] by treating the lithio compounds with the carboxylic acid chlorides benzoyl, 2-thenoyl, and ferrocenoyl chloride (Scheme 5-31). [Pg.247]

In two Japanese patents, Hasegawa and co-workers described the preparation of 1,2-benzothiazines with 2-aminoalkyl substituents. Thus, 3-benzoyl-4-hydroxy-2H-l,2-benzothiazine 1,1-dioxide was alkylated by piperidinoethyl chloride to give a good yield of 1,2-benzothiazine 109. Several compounds closely related to 109 were similarly prepared with a variety ofaminoalkyl substituents. Alkylation of 3-thenoyl-4-hydroxy-2f/-... [Pg.93]
