The written word

While readability is an important factor, the text layout together with the t5qjeface, font size and line spacing should be chosen carefully to reduce the possibility of the written text creating a mental barrier to assimilating its content.

No matter how original an idea you come up with, the inability to express yourself clearly and accurately through the written word will hinder the success of your personal statement. The rules of mechanics are complex in fact, they sometimes confuse even professional writers. However, you do not need to become a strict grammarian in order to write well. 

Modern science is very different from the descriptions of early systems of thought. Early philosophers and theorists lacked the objective methodologies and rational investigative processes required for the controlled experiments that led to modern science. They were more concerned with seeking universal cures for sickness, transmutation of base metals into gold, and mysticism in general. Most, but not all, ancient philosophers depended more on the written words of experts than on their own observations and insights. 

Because we do not work in a vacuum in the academic world, we must learn to communicate with others. The written word remains the foundation of this communication, and I would hope that some of the capstones in my career have come from being able to communicate in a clear and controlled manner.

Luc Nagtegal (1996) explained pre-colonial Java and Henk Schulte Nordholt (1993) explained Bali largely in terms of unstable competing networks of kinship and ritual. Merle Ricklefs (1992, 1998) and Margaret Wiener (1995) saw Java and Bali respectively rather as systems of magic and ritual to weave or at least assert coherence and unity. 

Improved telecommunication technology is not the only technology that has made our lives easier. Written communication is also instantaneous. We can send an e-mail or message instantly to someone not only from a computer, but also from a cellular telephone. Or perhaps you have a piece of writing or a form that must be sent but cannot be conveniently sent via the computer. Facsimile (fax) technology has also made sending the written word faster and easier. The document is transmitted to the receiver at once—it s almost like handing the copy to the recipient. 

Definitions are the means by which scientists and engineers communicate the nature of a material to each other and to the world, through either the spoken or the written word. Thus the definition of a material can be extremely important and have a profound influence on how the technical community and the public perceive that material.

In the field of electrophoresis, standardization is yet to be achieved in many areas. In laboratories throughout the world, variations of techniques exist. Interlaboratory intercomparisons of results are not widespread and there are apparent needs to have better control of electrophoretic results. Also, many techniques need to be validated for experimental appropriateness. Taylor (2) expressed the need for test validation "A plethora of methods, procedures, and protocols based on the same measurement principle can arise for a given analytical determination. Usually, they are worded differently, and they may contain subtle or major differences in technical details. The extent to which each needs to be validated is a matter of professional Judgment. It is evident some validation tests could be merely a matter of experimentally testing the clarity of the written word. ...
