The storage of chlorinated solvents

Advice on storage is normally provided by either a trade association or a producer of the materials. Different guidelines operate for the storage of bulk material in static tanks and for drummed or packed solvent. [Pg.139]

Chlorinated solvents are generally highly volatile and vents or relief systems are an essential element of the safety for storage of these chemicals. In particular a vapour return line should be fitted between the storage tank and the tank or vehicle under discharge. The storage tank should also be fitted with a vent or relief system. Chlorinated solvents can hydrolyse in the presence of water and therefore the vent should be fitted with an air dryer. [Pg.139]

Cast iron or steel pumps are recommended and can either be centrifugal, hermetic or those operating with solvent resistant mechanical seals. All vessels and intake lines, marked at the delivery point, should be clearly labelled with the name of the solvent. Regular, recorded inspection should be undertaken to ensure the integrity of the storage tank, pipes and pumps. [Pg.139]

The bulk storage of chlorinated solvents is practised widely throughout the world and providing the correct [Pg.139]
