The Golden Head

Rearranging the shawl so that part of it covered the golden head, he stooped and gathered the baby into his arms. Then it all came to him in a sudden flash of inspiration and he almost laughed aloud in his joy as he hurried from the room and out into the street. The queen stands upon a yellow substance or light, on which there appears the profile of a man s head. It might remind us of Plate TIO, where the golden head has been severed from the torso. The profile in the alembic, however, refers to an individual man whose mental faculties and skills are now at the service of the Feminine Principle of relatedness rather than an end-in-themselves or a source of power or dominance.

The common monetary system prevailing in every land fostered trade and facilitated the exchange of products. Travelers never had to bother their heads about the currency of money any coin that passed in New York would pass for its face value in London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Madrid, St. Petersburg, Constantinople, Cairo, Khartoum, Jerusalem, Peking, or Yeddo. As late as 1965 there were elderly people in London who still took small doses of Cockren s elixir. 

Psychologically, the three-headed bird could represent a situation where the intellect feels ungrounded, dissociated, and thrown into an immobilizing state of confusion. Things that used to make sense just don t. However, a golden crown on each of the bird s heads shows that it is still very much the Kingly Art, in other words, in the service of the Self, straining toward wholeness. 

A Fibonacci blueprint and the golden ratio appear to be able to describe plant growth and leaf spacing. The reproduction of honeybees, cows, and rabbits appears to be related to the Fibonacci sequence, as is the arrangement of cauliflower and broccoli florets. The ratio of the head-to-toe height in humans to the height from navel to toes also approximates the golden...
