Crowns, golden

An intriguing 3-coordinate organoantimony compound, which is the first example of trigonal-planar Sb, has been characterized. " The stibinidene complex [PhSb Mn(CO)2(rj -CsH5))2] has been isolated as shiny golden metallic crystals (mp 128°) from the crown-ether catalysed reaction ... [Pg.596]

At times she is a bride, wearing her ambivalence like a crown (the sign of alchemical mercury appears literally on her head as a diadem). She is the sum of Diana (the crescent moon) plus Venus, in some variants. Yet at the same time. Gold speaks in his own golden voice and explains Mercury is my brother he is female and 1 am male Hermetical Triumph 13). [Pg.84]

Then 1.16 g (4.81 mmol) of K[CpCo(CN)3] is suspended in a solution containing 1.28 g (4.84 mmol) of 18-crown-6 in 250 mL of MeCN, and the suspension is stirred for 3 h. During this time the K[CpCo(CN)3] dissolves to give a golden yellow solution. The solution is filtered to remove a small quantity of an insoluble brown impurity, and then the solvent is reduced in volume to 100 mL under vacuum. Addition of 150 mL Et20 precipitates the product as yellow microcrystals. The product is collected by filtration, washed with two 10-mL portions of Et20, and finally dried under vacuum for 1 h. Yield 2.31 g (91% from K[CpCo(CN)3] 33% overall). ... [Pg.170]

The British Crown Colony plays a major role in the trafficking and refining of narcotics which originate in the "Golden Triangle" ... [Pg.244]

The separation of silver from gold was a difficult task, and Pliny refers to an essentially chemical method in which the alloy is roasted with iron sulfate and common salt in the presence of brick dust, which absorbs the silver chloride formed and leaves pure gold. However, some 250 years earlier, Hieron, King of Syracuse (200 bc), had asked Archimedes to examine the composition of a new golden crown that he suspected might have been made from a gold-silver alloy. Since the density of gold (19.3) is nearly twice that of silver (10.5) the composition of the crown was easily determined by a purely physical method, probably the first use of a nondestructive method in analysis. [Pg.200]

As to combinatorial chemistry, internal reflection spectroscopy is especially suited for the analysis of the surface of solid polymer substrates, known as pins or crowns (5). With FTIR accessories like the SplitPea (6-8) or the Golden Gate (9), which combine internal reflection and microspectroscopy, direct observation of the chemical synthesis on pins is possible (10). This is shown in Fig. 2 where the spectra of a Mega Crown with linker, Fmoc1-protected (upper curve), and of the same crown after the removal of the pro-... [Pg.68]

The pipe on the bottom is of the cumaceba tree [Cesalpina equinata]. From this pipe arise majestic lords called ampishcashamuy [those who come to cure] and their guardian, the serpent tamer called Alii Urman. The spirit of this tree is a giant named Maun, who wears a golden crown. [Pg.30]
