In the late 1940s, J. D. Parsons of Traverse City, MI obtained a contract with the U.S. Air Force to conduct a feasibility study of a pulsed [Pg.415]

In March 1951, it was decided that a simple name was needed for the concept of digital control of machine tools, and a contest to obtain a name was conducted in the Servomechanisms Laboratory. McDonough was the winner with Numerical Control (NC). [Pg.416]

In the summer of 1950, a professor from the Mechanical Engineering Department, with two members of MIT s Industrial Liaison Office, visited several aircraft companies in California to obtain drawings of t3 ical parts the companies would like to see produced by the new system. [Pg.416]

At this time, the Air Force decided it was time to introduce the public to numerical control. This was done in three one-day sessions, which included lectures and demonstrations as follows  [Pg.416]
