Monodisperse wurtzite CuInxGai xS2 (GIGS) nanocrystals have been synthesized from metal-acetylacetonate complexes and a mixture of sulfur sources as 1-dodecanethiol and tert-dodecanethiol. The morphology of the nanocrystals can be controlled in the form of bullet-like, rod-like, and tadpole-like shapes. The band gap of the nanocrystals increased with the increase in gallium concentration.

Hydrogen-transfer Reagent in Radical Reactions. Thiols, in particular tertiary mercaptans such as tert-butanethiol and triethylmethanethiol, have been widely used in radical reactions to trap radical intermediates by hydrogen atom transfer. ferf-Dodecanethiol is a vahd substitute for those mercaptans, since it is cheap, relatively odorless compared to the other alkanethiols, and generally equally efficient with respect to the hydrogen donor properties. 

Large quantities of CuInSe2 nanocrystals were synthesised by the reaction of copper iodide, indium acetate and tert-butylphosphine selenide in a mixture of dodecanethiol, octadecene, oleic acid at 200 °C. The nanocrystals produced showed tunable photoluminescence spectra ranging from 600 to 850nm. Two-dimensional photoluminescence spectra are also reported with the synthesis of Type-I heterostructured CuInSe2/ZnS nanocrystals.
