For current consoHdation, the basic circuits, used at each of the multiple power take-off points, are stacked into a Christmas tree topology to form a single power take-off terminal pair. Scale-up of these devices to commercial sizes is not expected to be a problem, as standard electrical components are available for all sizes considered. A different type of consoHdation scheme developed (117), uses dc to ac converters to connect the individual electrodes to the consoHdation point. The current from each electrode can be individually controUed by the converter, which can either absorb energy from or deHver energy to the path between the electrode and the consoHdation point. This scheme offers the potential capabiHty of controlling the current level of each electrode pair. [Pg.434]

Structure Modification. Several types of stmctural defects or variants can occur which figure in adsorption and catalysis (/) surface defects due to termination of the crystal surface and hydrolysis of surface cations (2) stmctural defects due to imperfect stacking of the secondary units, which may result in blocked channels (J) ionic species, eg, OH , AIO 2, Na", SiO , may be left stranded in the stmcture during synthesis (4) the cation form, acting as the salt of a weak acid, hydrolyzes in aqueous suspension to produce free hydroxide and cations in solution and (5) hydroxyl groups in place of metal cations may be introduced by ammonium ion exchange, followed by thermal deammoniation. [Pg.447]

The plates are dried and cured under controlled temperature and humidity conditions producing no wastewater or particulate emissions. Cured plates are sent to a three-process operation that involves manual separation of the plates, stacking them with non-conducting separators, and the welding on of metallic lead battery leads (pronounced leeds ) and lead terminals. In the early 1980s, Don Oris of American President Lines followed Kaye s lead. This shipper purchased its own double-stack railroad cars and did not rely on railroads to furnish equipment for shipping containers from the West Coast. Because it was now involved in both sea and rail transport, American President Lines saw the benefit of modifying the double-stack car design to fit all lift equipment at port and rail terminals. [Pg.516]

The nucleotide bases are flat molecules. Each base pair is parallel to the one below it, with 340 picometers separating the two. There is a rotation of 36° between pairs, giving ten base pairs per complete turn of the helix. The two sugar-phosphate backbone strands wind around these stacked pairs, as shown in Figure 13-29.
