CNT based FETs can outperform the current FET technologies in many ways however, one of the most interesting properties of carbon nanotubes is the ballistic transport of electrons [178], which opens the possibility of constructing FETs that can operate at extremely high frequencies, making them suitable for the next generation electronic devices. Operation of SWCNT transistors has been demonstrated at microwave frequencies (see Fig. 21) [179] and more recently the operation of an SWCNT transistor in the terahertz frequency range was demonstrated [148]. [Pg.147]

Terahertz pulse spectroscopy was used to observe the polymorphs of ranitidine hydrochloride.91 Sample preparation for this technique is the same as for Raman and FTIR spectroscopy and the data generated is complementary to Raman. Terahertz pulse spectroscopy provides information on the low-frequency intermolecular modes that are difficult to study with Raman due to the proximity of the laser excitation line. The authors concluded that this technique has many applications in pharmaceutical science including formulation, screening and stability studies. [Pg.351]

Terahertz imaging approaches have typically used either short-pulsed laser or continuous wave (CW) THz generation and detection. The short-pulsed method usually involves the generation and detection of sub-picosecond THz pulses using either photoconductive antenna structures or optical rectification in a non-linear crystal. Pulsed sources seem to be more favorable (in particular for close proximity applications) because they can be used for acquiring depth information. Spectral information is retrieved by a Fourier transform of the time-domain data to the frequency domain. [Pg.338]

Figure 4.18. Cross-section schematic of an advanced transistor design. Features illustrated are (a) raised source and drain contacts, (b) an SOI substrate that prevents off-state leakage from source to drain, and (c) a high-K dielectric gate insulator. These three components employed in tandem are the basis of a faster generation of transistors referred to as terahertz transistors. ]... Figure 4.18. For our terahertz transmission measurements, we used solutions of thioredoxin in distilled water obtained from Sigma. The experimental and simulated signatures are correlated and dominant peaks are close in frequencies. The results of this study demonstrate that terahertz spectroscopy is a promising tool in generating spectral data for cellular components of bio agents such as bacterial cells and spores. [Pg.368]
