MEAs used in this study were prepared in the following procedure [5]. Animal treatment. Male 100-g MRC-Wistar or Sprague-Dawley rats were fasted from the evening of the previous day but were given water. Non-fasted 30-35 g Swiss mice were used. Except where specified otherwise, the animals received a standard commercial diet (Wayne Lab Blox, Allied Mills). In the standard experiments, animals were gavaged with 25 mg morpholine (Fisher Scientific Co.) in 10 mL water/rat or 2 mg morpholine in 0.2 mL water/mouse.
