In children undergoing long-term total parenteral nutrition without taurine supplements, there are changes in the electroretinogram similar to those seen in the taurine-deficient cat, suggesting that there is a requirement for some preformed taurine and that endogenous synthesis may be inadequate. 

Ursodeoxycholic acid, a bUe acid with choleretic properties, has been shown to produce morphologic and functional improvement in affected patients. The effects are dose-related, and 15-20 mg/kg per day has been used, sometimes in combination with taurine supplementation. Administering this agent prophylacticaUy to patients at risk for liver disease, if feasible, has been proposed. ...

Taurine, supplemented in ovo to chicken embryo, enhanced organization of breast muscle by increasing number of muscles cells, by activating molecular mechanisms evaluated by expression of PCNA. Nanoparticles of gold did not influence examined parameters. 

In a few studies it has been demonstrated that taurine supplementation improves retinal development in premature babies receiving parenteral nutrition. Human data on the efficacy of taurine supplementation in so-called energy drinks are very limited. In the absence of taurine supplementation in children taurine concentrations drop, suggesting its conditional indispensability also in the postneonatal period. This has led to the addition of taurine to standard feeding formulas for infants and growing children.
