To produce tapered edge waHboard, tapered belts are added to the mbber conveyor belt that carries and supports the board while the gypsum core sets up, typically in about four minutes. 

Rotameters The rotameter, an example of which is shown in Fig. 10-21, has become one of the most popular flowmeters in the chemical-process industries. It consists essentially of a plummet, or float, which is free to move up or down in a vertical, slightly tapered tube having its small end down. The fluid enters the lower end of the tube and causes the float to rise until the annular area between the float and the wall of the tube is such that the pressure drop across this constriction is just sufficient to support the float. Typically, the tapered tube is of glass and carries etched upon it a nearly linear scale on which the position of the float may be visually noted as an indication of the flow. 

In two studies in which benzodia2epines were gradually tapered, concurrent cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) did not increase the proportion of patients who were able to successfully discontinue their use of these agents (Oude Voshaar et al. 2003 Vorma et al. 2003). On the other hand, other studies of patients with panic disorder found that CBT facilitated the discontinuation of benzodiazepine use (Otto et al. 1993). Similarly, CBT may be superior to supportive medical management in preventing the reoccurrence of panic attacks in panic disorder patients in whom alprazolam has been tapered (Bruce etal. 1999). 

Use of bioflocs rather than supported film particles will maximize the effectiveness factor for a given particle, but uneven growth of floes can cause severe stratification in the bed. If stratification can be overcome by methods such as the use of a tapered bed to control porosity the removal, breaking up, and recycle of biomass at the bottom of the bed or, ideally, the use of microbial strains or species that will stop growing at a desirable floe size, such as a Zymomonas mobilis strain that stops growing at one millimeter in diameter (Scott, 1983), the use of bioflocs rather than support particles can improve reactor productivity. 

Combining an FGA and an SGA and combining different SGAs have been suggested, but no data exist to support or refute these strategies. If a series of antipsychotic monotherapies fails, a time-limited combination trial may be attempted. If there is no improvement within 6 to 12 weeks, one of the drugs should be tapered and discontinued. 

Alcohol withdrawal seizures do not require anticonvulsant drug treatment unless they progress to status epilepticus. Patients with seizures should be treated supportively. An increase in the dosage and slowing of the tapering schedule of the BZ used for detoxification or a single injection of a BZ may be necessary to prevent further seizure activity.
