Based on these considerations, a history of endometriosis should be considered a contraindication for treatment with tamoxifen, and considerable attention should be paid to the widespread use of tamoxifen as prophylactic treatment for the prevention of breast cancer in premenopausal women.

To what extent, if any, tamoxifen further increases the risk of thrombosis with antineoplastic therapy is unclear from the above studies. However, some authors recommend that serious consideration be given to the use of prophylactic anticoagulants if adjuvant CMF is given with tamoxifen in women with breast cancer, and the UK manufacturers endorse this. This may be prudent with antineoplastic chemotherapy in any case.
