Many investigators of steric stabilization have measured colloidal stability without taking the effort to find out whether the stability actually resulted from electrostatic stabilization. In many published articles it has been concluded that steric stabilization had been attained and further study showed this was not the case. One such example is a recent paper on "steric" stabilization by an additive of the same type used in this work. (12) The published photograph shows the silica particles in oil stabilized at interparticle separations several times the distances provided by the adsorbed films no electrical measurements had been made, but it they had, this particular dispersant would have provided about -200 mV of zeta-potential and given excellent electrostatic repulsion. The reader should be wary of any claims of steric stabilization unless the electrostatic contribution has been measured. 

By the time he arrived on borrowed funds at Cambridge in September 1895 to take up work at the Cavendish under its renowned director, J. J. Thomson, Rutherford had elaborated his observation into a device (ct detecting radio waves at a distance— in effect, the first crude radio receiver. The distance between the structure and fixed impressed current anodes is an important factor. The number of anodes has to be small so the anodes need to be relatively large, which will result in too negative a potential if the distance is not sufficiently great. A minimum distance of 1.5 m is prescribed [1-3], but this involves considerable construction effort due to the effects of heavy seas. Besides the so-called restriction on impressed current installations, there is the requirement that the corrosion protection be switched off when diving work is being carried out [14]. This regulation is not justifiable. Work on the underwater region of production platforms takes place continuously, as far as the weather allows if the protection must be switched off each time, the impressed current protection becomes very limited. 

A number of people find amphetamines useful for specific purposes. For example, some college students use them to study for or take exams. Some writers take them to work. Truckers and other drivers sometimes take them for long-distance travel on highways, especially at night. Athletes, such as football players, sometimes use them to play big games. Actors and dancers take them occasionally to perform. Used in this way — that is, taken by mouth on occasion for specific purposes or projects — amphetamines do not usually cause problems, especially if people rest afterward. Problems arise when people take amphetamines all the time, just because they like the feeling of stimulation.
