In the strictest sense, system safety encompasses process safety and the two are inextricably linked. Since systems are defined to include processes, process safety may be considered a subset of system safety. The application of appropriate system safety tenets to the chemical process industry follows. In the process industry, the system safety practitioner continues his or her quest to identify, evaluate, analyze, and eliminate or control hazards throughout the life cycle of the process (in this case). The precedence of controls remains the same. So, there is a close relation between system and chemical process safety and the process industry. [Pg.278]

Management now set standards of accountability by delegating authority to certain positions for ongoing safety work to be done. Coordination and management of the NEMIRR system needs to be allocated to certain departments and individuals and this standard dictates who must do what, and by when, to run the system. ISO 26262 is based on the system architecture. The vehicle itself consists of different systems their electric and electronic architecture is modeled in the according development process. The design and development of the EEA of a vehicle is based on the work products from preceding development phases like the design of a broadly defined system architecture concept. In the future it has to consider the results of analysis, considerations and classification of safety aspects, demanded by ISO 26262. The electric and electronic (EE) part of the system architecture is iteratively refined and detailed during the development process. The impact of ISO 26262 to the modeling of the EEA and the contribution of the EEA modeling towards the fulfillment of the overall safety concept is discussed in this paper. [Pg.180]
