System Cost Added

PEM fuel cells operate at relatively low temperatures, around 80°C. Low temperature operation allows them to start quickly (less warm-up time) and results in less wear on system components, resulting in better durability. However, they require that a noble-metal catalyst (typically platinum) be used to separate the hydrogen s electrons and protons, adding to system cost. The platinum catalyst is also extremely sensitive to CO poisoning, making it necessary to employ an additional reactor to reduce CO in the fuel gas if the hydrogen is derived from an alcohol or hydrocarbon fuel. This also adds cost. Developers are currently exploring platinum/ruthenium catalysts that are more resistant to CO. 

For in situ apphcations, the use of OxyVac costs only 25% to 30% more than the use of soil vacuum extraction or Dual Vacuum Extraction alone. The added costs are mostly due to expenses associated with the hydrogen peroxide distribution system. Costs generally range from 25 to 100 per ton of soil treated (D21576J, p. 2). 

A regenerable system brings added complexity to the flue gas treatment system, increasing capital and operating costs and concerns over system reliability. Also, the increased space typically required for regenerable systems reduces their applicability for installation at existing facilities. 

The effectiveness of different techniques to enhance the heat transfer ability of DR surfactant solutions depends on the surfactant solution, its concentration and temperature, and details of the circulating system. Minimum added costs and maximum heat transfer enhancement are the goals. ... 

We have already learnt that polyelectrolytes are much more soluble than the corresponding uncharged polymer, which we attribute to the entropy of the counterion distribution confining polymer molecules to part of the system costs little entropy due to the low number of entities. On the other hand, there is a large entropy loss on confining the (much more numerous) counterions. In mixed polymer systems, we see many consequences of the electrostatic interactions due to net charges. One is the low tendency to phase separation in a mixed solution of one nonionic and one ionic polymer in the presence of added electrolyte, this inhibition of phase separation is largely eliminated and typical polymer incompatibility is observed. 

Use of an HR system in a mould greatly increases its cost and the operating and servicing requirements. The mould design should envisage that a separate HR thermal system is added to the conventional heat exchange system. Provision should therefore be made for the following ...
