The dialysis bag was removed and the eye pressurized at about 120 in/min with a syringe connected to the manometer, while leakage and pressure were monitored. For solid samples, a septum is placed at the inlet of the lower chamber through which the reagents, if necessary, are injected with a syringe furnished with a hypodermic needle. The outlet of the lower chamber is shut with a screw in order to avoid leakage and the resulting loss of analytes. 

The channels, which had catalyzed electrodes on the surfaces, were covered with Nafion 112 (thickness 50 pm, equivalent weight 1,100 gmoF, ionic conductivity 0.083 S cm" ) to provide ionic conductivity between the anode and the cathode. The Nafion membrane was pressed with a glass plate to avoid solution leakage (Fig. 3.4a). Voltage-current measurements were performed at room temperature with a mass flow control system of fuel and oxidant as shown in Fig. 3.4b. Cell Loading. Sample and reference buffer are loaded into the cells using the same procedure described above for DSC to eliminate air bubbles. Erratic performance usually indicates either bubbles or leaking cells. The cells are overfilled outside the calorimeter to about 2 mm above the tip of the loading capillary and then inserted stepwise into the calorimeter to gradually equilibrate the cells and minimize perturbation of the calorimeter. The syringe is put into place at the end of the equilibration to minimize the effects of leakage from the tip of the injection needle. Total equilibration requires approximately 2 hr. 

Streptomycin is a strong sensitizer and obsolete in topical therapy, but still presents an occupational hazard to nurses and veterinarians, because of leakage from syringes.
