Synthetic fluorinated compound

These ethers readily copolymerize with tetrafluoroethylene and other fluoroalkenes to commercially significant plastics, elastomers, and ion-exchange resins such as Teflon PFA, Kalrez, andNafton (see Fluorine compounds organic-tethafluoroethylene-perfluorovinylETHERcopolya rs EuASTOPffiRS, SYNTHETIC-FLUOROCARBONELASTOTffiRS lONIC POLYTffiRS). [Pg.304]

The development of synthetic methods for the selective introduction of short-chain perfluoroalkyl groups into organic molecules is of interest in drug development [464]. Fluoromodifications often confer unique properties on a molecule, for example in terms of increased metabolic stability and lipophilicity and, as a consequence, the pharmacokinetic profiles are often improved [465]. Burger and coworkers developed a domino process consisting of a SN reaction combined with a Claisen and a Cope rearrangement which allows the transformation of simple fluorinated compounds into more complex molecules with fluoro atoms [466]. Treatment of furan 2-917 with 2-hydroxymethyl thiophene (2-918) in the presence... [Pg.188]

Five- to six-month-old tobacco plants (Nicotiana tabacum var. Samsun) grown in a glasshouse at 20°C were used for this study. Commercial synthetic substrates employed both for histochemical and biochemical assays were guaiacol, p-phenylenediamine-pyrocatechol (PPD-PC), 3-3 di-aminobenzidine (DAB), tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) and syringaldazine. Isopropylamine and monosodium salts of ferulic acid were also used as substrates as well as their / -fluorinated analogues substituted with a fluorine atom on the / -carbon (Fig. 1). Histochemical observations were done on hand-made transverse sections of fresh tobacco stems. Biochemical assays were performed separately on bark (inner cortical parenchyma, phloem and fibres) and xylem fractions. Technical data of incubation, enzyme extraction, spectrophotometric and electrophoretic assays were given elsewhere (5-7). Synthesis of fluorinated compounds was performed as previously described (4). [Pg.194]
