As a hurricane travels over warm ocean water, it lowers the sea surface temperature by about 3°C m a 100 km swath. When a hurricane is stationaiy, this surface ocean cooling weakens the storm intensity. Hurricanes also rapidly lose strength when they move over cold water or land. 

A field test was conducted by spraying a commercial oil spill-dispersant (Corexit 9527) from aircraft [696]. Test objectives were to determine the efficiency of delivering the dispersant to a selected target using a large aircraft and to compare various measurement systems for droplet size and spray pattern distribution. The results indicated that aerial flights up to 46 m can produce droplet sizes and swath widths that would be operationally effective for an oil spill.

Therefore, two pairs of bases are required for a LH2 terminal. Figure 12.6 shows the LF12 carrier based on the SWATH concept. 

The maximum speed of the LH2 carrier is about 17.5 kn (32.4 km/h). The propulsion power is 41 MW. The propulsion of the SWATH carrier is based on a steam-injection gas turbine with an efficiency of 50% (Wursig, 1996). The investment for the SWATH carrier is indicated at about 440 million, including five LH2 tanks. The investment for one LH2 tank is 40 million. The investment for the LH2 terminals (both export and import terminal) is indicated at about 820 million (G. M. Wursig, Germanischer Lloyd, Hamburg, personal communication, January 1999). 

For the organic gardener, the lawn is as much an ecosystem as the pond or fencerow. You may want a formal, relatively weed-free lawn, or you may prefer a more relaxed green swath made up of a diversity of plant species.
