The sustained world popularity of NSP results from simplicity of production and high agronomic quaHty as a carrier of available P2O5, calcium, sulfur, and usually some incidental micronutrients. In terms of agronomic value for large numbers of crops, no phosphate fertilizer has been shown to be superior to NSP. It is likely to remain in strong demand in parts of the world where simplicity of production or sulfur fertilization has high priority and where transportation costs are not prohibitive. [Pg.223]

The flows of wastewater originating from the water supply of a community and runoff from precipitation on urban surfaces are typically collected and conveyed for treatment and disposal. The system used for this purpose is called a sewer network or a collection system that consists of individual pipes (sewer lines) and a number of installations, such as inlet structures and pumps, to facilitate collection and transport. The efficient, safe and cost-effective collection and transport of wastewater and urban runoff have been identified as key criteria to be observed. In this context, the word safe means that public health, welfare and environmental protection have high priority. The demand for solutions toward more sustainable water management in the cities is a new challenge. [Pg.1]

In the Priorities for Action of the IFCS in the year 2000, the target year 2008 was set for implementation of a harmonised system, and this was endorsed by the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002. The system adopted in late 2002 was revised in 2005 and 2006 (UNECE 2007). Responsibility rests with the United Nations Economic and Social Council Sub-Committee of Experts on the GHS under the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The target of full GHS implementation by 2008 has not been reached, but implementation is well underway. Major actors have set deadlines, such as the United States (transportation 2010) and the European Union (2010 for classification of substances and 2015 for mixtures). [Pg.194]
