Surprises within Packaged Units

Sometimes equipment that is rented or purchased as a packaged unit allows out-of-spec components to enter a chemical plant. Air compressor systems, refrigeration units, and boiler systems are prime examples of units that, if improperly specified, may allow out-of-spec elements into a refinery or chemical plant. [Pg.153]

Another example of out-of-spec equipment is the use of filters on a unit. Many packaged units are equipped with filter cartridge bodies that have zero corrosion allowance and are not as robust as other equipment purchased for the process. [Pg.153]

Anyone who reads this chapter should have a clearer understanding of the need for and the value of well-maintained and up-to-date specifications. [Pg.153]
