The ASME code provides the basic requirements for over-pressure protection. Section I, Power Boilers, covers fired and unfired steam boilers. All other vessels including exchanger shells and similar pressure containing equipment fall under Section VIII, Pressure Vessels. API RP 520 and lesser API documents supplement the ASME code. These codes specify allowable accumulation, which is the difference between relieving pressure at which the valve reaches full rated flow and set pressure at which the valve starts to open. Accumulation is expressed as percentage of set pressure in Table 1. The articles by Rearick and Isqacs are used throughout this section. 

Sucrose caramels have been produced under anhydrous thermal conditions that are designed to maximize the content of fructose-rich oligosaccharides.100-102 These sucrose thermal oligosaccharide caramels (STOC) have been tested in animals as a nutritional supplement. Improved weight gains and feed conversion, and increased levels of bifidobacteria (see section VIII) were observed in broiler chickens that were fed this supplement.103... 

Table VIII shows the phosphorus balance of zinc-fed and non-zinc-fed rats supplemented with 0.8% calcium and/or phosphorus. A dietary level of 0.75% zinc was associated with decreases in the apparent retention of phosphorus, and these data support the findings of Sadasivan (2-4). Under section 314.70(c) (2) (iii) of the final rule, the relaxation of acceptance criteria or deletion of a test to comply with an official compendium that is consistent with FDA statutory and regulatory requirements must be submitted as a supplement—CBE-30 (see section VUI.C.l.e of the Changes guidance). Under 314.70(d)(2)(i) of the final rule, any change in a specification made to comply with an official compendium, except the relaxation of acceptance criteria or deletion of a test that is consistent with FDA statutory and regulatory requirements, is to be submitted as an Annual Report (see section VIII.D.1 of the Changes guidance). 

Because the state of the literature through 1980 is so well covered by the surveys listed in Table II, only very recent work on polymerization reaction engineering will be provided here as a supplement. This is categorized by topic in Table VIII. This large amount of literature (which is not exhaustive) over the last 18 months is indicative of the recent explosion of interest in these problems.

The flow rate was maintained at one reactor volume per day. Samples were taken daily for cell counts, factor VIII analysis and amino acid analysis. At the start of the production phase the medium was supplemented with 200 xmol of asparagine (50 jxmol of asparagine was present in the unsupplemented medium). 

After a certain time period asparagine supplementation was stopped (day 0), as a consequence of which asparagine became exhausted from the culture medium and the production of factor VIII dropped (days 1-4). Asparagine (200 xmol) was later added to the medium (day 4), the result of which was an increase in the levels of factor VIII.
