This paper by Ya.B. was translated and published, with a few changes, in the collection Statistical phenomena in heterogeneous systems, 1 which was devoted especially to the theory of non-uniform surfaces and to statistical phenomena in adsorption and catalysis. In the review article by V. I. Levin in this collection the priority of Ya.B. s article in statistical research on the theory of adsorption and catalysis is emphasized. The article also cites articles by other authors who came to similar conclusions, but later than Ya.B. The significance of Ya.B. s work for the theory of catalysis is elucidated in detail in S. Z. Roginskii s book, Adsorption and Catalysis on a Non-Uniform Surface. 2 After this a summary of this paper by Ya.B. has entered into the majority of monographs and textbooks on catalysis. Thus, in the course of Thomas and Thomas3 the derivation of the adsorption isotherm on a non-uniform surface is given in full and referred to as classical. 

The subject of statistical researches are the Population (universe, statistical masses, basic universe, completeness) and samples taken from a population. The population must be representative of a collection of a continual chemical process by some features, i.e. properties of the given products. If we are to find a property of a product, we have to take out a sample from a population that, by mathematical statistics theory is usually an infinite gathering of elements-units. 

Statistical research in the last decade has cast serious doubt on the wisdom of adding the MR chart to the x chart in n = 1 situations. The price paid for the addition in terms of false alarm rate is not really repaid with an important increase in the ability to detect process change. We should point out that the ability to fit equations of the form (5-18) or like (5-19), or of an even more complicated form, is predicated on having data from enough different mixtures to allow unambiguous identification of the parameters b. This requires proper data collection strategy. Much of the existing statistical research on the topic of mixture experiment design has to do with the question of wise allocation of experimental resources under the assumption that a particular type of equation is to be fit.

However, we must remember that in the biological sciences and in the medical sciences, especially within the general area of biological sciences, there are very few absolutes. Very little has been written about the interconnections of different SAR approaches, probably because most of us feel hesitant to discuss the less familiar areas. It replaces the American National Standard for Uniform Record Keeping for Occupational Injuries and Illnesses, ANSI Z16.4-1977, and USA Standard Method of Recordkeeping and Measuring Work Injury Experience, ANSI Z16.1-1967. This standard is a development of the old Z16.1, which had been in use since 1937, before it was replaced by the (for injury and iUness statistical research) Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) system. The standard is useful in determining what kinds of events to evaluate. It includes statistical tools, including control charts, for data analysis.
