Although this voltage was not a concern for safety, it did have the potential to corrode the fence quickly in those areas. Monitoring continues but shows no significant corrosion of the fence posts. [Pg.643]

It is anticipated that the Lasagna system at the old Quicfrez site will meet the cleanup goal of 1-ppm TCE in the soil sometime mid-2008. Meanwhile, plans for the site continue to develop. Designs are being drawn up to add a stormwater retention pond and bikeway through the site. The terrace will be removed once the remediation is complete. The Lasagna treatment zones will remain in place to allow for continued treatment of any residual TCE for many years. [Pg.643]

3 Cost The cost to install Lasagna at this site was approximately 1,030,000. An additional 250,000 was spent on site preparations to extend the remediation process into the river. Operations are estimated at an additional 250,000 for electricity, rectifier rental, site oversight, and monitoring for 2 years. The complete site cleanup will cost an estimated 2,000,000, of which 1,280,000 is directly for Lasagna. Based on the 6000-m (8000-yd ) site volume, the Lasagna unit costs equal 213 per cubic meter ( 160 per cubic yard or about 100 per ton). [Pg.643]

Currently, the Lasagna process is a commercially viable soil remediation process that has been proven especially effective in treating chlorinated solvent contamination in low-permeabiUty soils. The use of DC electrical current to heat the soil and to mobilize pore water and contaminants directionally into degradative treatment zones makes in situ remediation possible. The process is a truly treatment in-place method since no contamination is brought aboveground. Transport and destruction take place within the soil mass. [Pg.643]

Lasagna can be installed at many sites with diverse conditions and surrounding environments. The system works well in saturated or vadose zones. Installations have been installed and operated safely in semirural and urban settings. With the process being contained underground, the only pieces of equipment required are the rectifier and a remote data monitoring system. The only structure required is a [Pg.643]
