In these experiments, oxygen was dispersed in water in a Sulzer SMV mixer and the absorption rate monitored. Plug flow was assumed in the evaluation of the experimental data. The results prove the proportionalities... [Pg.310]

Streiff [528] found the following dispersion characteristic for the dispersion in the Sulzer SMV mixer of a number of low viscosity material systems (continuous phase water, dispersed phase gasoline, kerosene, toluene, cyclohexane, air) ... [Pg.315]

Limiting ourselves to Sulzer technology, two interesting mixer types emerge. The Sulzer Mixer Reactor (SMR) is ideal for exothermal reactions, but is, however, only applicable for viscous fluids, e.g. polymers. The Sulzer SMV mixer on the other hand can be applied for mixtures in which gas is the continuous phase. For this reason jacketed cooling is of no use because the heat transfer coefficient for a gas is rather limited. An important remark must be made on this point only gas-liquid mixtures with a G/L ratio up to 10 can be handled with the SMV mixer.14 Therefore, when dealing with the model system, solutions must be found to decrease this ratio within the reaction system. [Pg.42]

Considerable data is available for static mixers. With the aid of the following relations applicable to Sulzer SMV mixers, a dedicated design can be made. [Pg.42]

Data are available for the blending characteristics of the Sulzer SMV mixer, see Figure 12.10. As with the laminar data for the SMX and SMXL types the data are presented as the relationship between variation coefficient ([Pg.244]

For the Koch/Sulzer SMV in turbulent flow (Rcp > 2000), significant mixing continues to be achieved for several diameters downstream of the mixer. [Pg.247]

The SMV mixer developed by the Swiss company Sulzer is made up of stacked corrugated plates with adjacent plates having opposite orientation. The length of one element is about one diameter usually several elements are placed in series with one element turned 90° relative to the element next to it. Because of the splitting and reorientation within one element, the mixing action is quite efficient. The mixer geometry and mixing action is shown in Fig. 7.139. This mixer is primarily used for low-viscosity fluids. [Pg.461]

In both experiments, the fuel-air mixture is prepared by separate injection of the reactants and in-line mixing using a proprietary static mixer (type SMV, Sulzer Co.). Other experiments have used this method with good results, but it is not seen as other than a convenience for the laboratory work. [Pg.141]

In the case of uniformly heated tubes, very high heat transfer coefficients have been obtained with the SMV Sulzer mixer (Fig. 11.27, curves i and j). Comparable heat transfer enhancement is also obtained with Kenics static mixers. [Pg.816]
