Sulphidation reactions follow a similar series of kinetic phenomena as has been observed for oxidation. Unfortunately, few studies have been made of the basic kinetic phenomena involved in sulphidation reactions at high temperature. Similarly, the volatile species in sulphate and carbonate systems are important in terms of evaporation/condensation phenomena involving these compounds on alloy or ceramic surfaces. Perhaps the best example of this behaviour is the rapid degradation of protective scales on many alloys, termed hot corrosion , which occurs when Na2S04 or other salt condenses on the alloy. 

This step is a direct hio-sulphidization reaction and it converts all the lead-containing salts and/or oxides in the paste into PbS by means of anaerobic bacteria. Compared to previously studied systems, this technology improves the required conversion reaction in terms of the technical and economical aspects. Reactions of Sulphides.—Reactions involving the displacement of an alkylthio- or arylthio-substituent from a sulphide are well represented in the recent literature, some of the reactions providing new syntheses. The usefulness of RS— groups in activating the adjacent centre for metallation can only be exploited in general synthetic methods if the groups can be removed without difficulty after they have fulfilled their purpose [cf. Ando et at, found the photochemical reaction to be the most useful method to date for the preparation of sulphoniumcyclopentadienylides (7) from diazocyclopentadiene and a variety of dialkyl sulphides. Reaction with di-t-butyl sulphide afforded a mixture of sulphides, which probably resulted from rearrangements of an initially formed ylide (8). With allyl ethyl sulphide, diazocyclopentadiene gave a 13% yield of the addition product (9) and a 31% yield of a product (10) resulting from initial ylide formation...
