Sugarcane processing diffusion

Cane sugar is processed using one of two methods of extraction. One method uses diffusion and the other uses roller press extraction. Both methods may be used to make sugar and molasses fractions from sugarcane. However, roller press extraction is used by a greater percentage of the industry and, therefore, is the better method for a small-scale study.

Screw presses may be used in the diffusion process for sugarcane, wherein the liquids for the diffusion of sugar solutions and fresh makeup water are extracted from die cut cane chips by the single or multistage unit. 

Sugar is generally removed from sugarcane in large factories by either the milling or the diffusion process (- Sugar cane processing).
