Substituted benzo phenanthridines

Dimethyl azodicarboxylate (164) has been reported to undergo a [ 4 + 2] photocycloaddition to the diene (165) to give the 2,3-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octene (166). An analogous solid-state addition has been described in the ox-azolone (167) to give the photodimer (IbS), and oxidation of the photoadduct derived from 1-oxoanhydromethylberberine and nitrosobenzene has been used in a synthesis of ring C-substituted benzo[c]phenanthridines. ... [Pg.416]

The benzo[c]phenanthridines synthesized by Lete s group are not reported to possess any biological activity. Indeed, no 5-benzyl-substituted quaternary benzo[c]phenanthridines appear to be active. Their syntheses have been included because of the high overall yields (60%) and particularly their versatility, which allows for the synthesis of C-6 alkyl-substituted benzo[c]phenanthridines and the possibility of functionalization at C-11. Coupled with the facile removal of benzyl substituents from isoquinolines, it is envisaged that these routes will offer significant contributions to the structure-activity relationship profiles, which are being compiled for this class of compounds. [Pg.381]

Similar types of nucleophilic substitutions have also been carried out when PIFA is activated by two equivalents of Lewis acids such as trimethylsilyl triflu-oromethanesulfonate (TMSOTf) and BF3 Et20 or heteropolyacid in standard solvents such as CH2C12 and MeCN. These reactions were applied to intramolecular reactions by the same authors leading to biaryls (49) [54-57], quinone imine derivatives (50) [58], and dihydrobenzothiophens (51) [59], which are important structures of bioactive natural products [Eqs. (7)-(9)]. Dominguez and co-workers have expanded the above biaryl coupling reaction to the syntheses of benzo[c]phenanthridine system (52) [60] and heterobiaryl compounds (53) [61] [Eqs. (10,11)]. [Pg.215]

Benzo[c]phenanthridines are an important class of the isoquinoline alkaloid family. It was possible to synthesize a variety of these compounds based on the S l reactions of appropriate derivatives of o-iodobenzylamines with nucleophiles328. For instance, the pho-tostimulated reaction of 281 (R1 = R2= H, OMe R1 = OPr-/, R2= OMe R R2 = 0CH20) with the appropriate derivative of tetralone enolate ions 284 (R3 = R4 = H, OMe R3 = OMe, R4 = H R3 = OPr-/, R4 = OMe R3R4 = 0CH20) gave the substitution compound, which spontaneously cyclizes to 285 (equation 176). [Pg.1464]

In addition to the study of the bis-benzo[c]phenanthridines just discussed above, Marek and coworkers have also extensively studied other benzojcjphenanthridine alkaloids [111,121]. The structures of the alkaloids for which data have been reported and their respective chemical shifts are collected in Figure 14.12. These alkaloids include the methyl chloride salts, sanguinarine chloride (110), chelrythine chloride (111), sanguilutine chloride (112) and chelirubine chloride (113). 6-Substituted and... [Pg.454]

This methodology with some variations has been utilized in the synthesis of numerous heterocyclic systems, such as heterocycle-fused quinolinone derivatives [391], l,4-benzodiazepin-2-ones [392], benzo-, naphtho- and heterocycle-fused pyrrolo[2,l-c][l,4]diazepines [393], quinolinone or pyrrolidinone derivatives [394], dibenzo[fl,c]phenanthridines [395], thiazolo-fused quinolinones [396], isoindolinone and isoquinolin-2-one derivatives [397], indoline derivatives [398], 5-aroyl-pyrrolidinones [399,400], indazolone derivatives [401,402], substituted indolizidinones [403], 1-arylpyrrolopyrazinones [404], stmcturally diverse... [Pg.203]

The photochemical substitution reactions of 2-naphthoxide anion and o-halophenol (X = Br, I) in an aqueous sodium sulfite solution were also reported Photosubstitution of the sulfo group for hydrogen is observed under irradiation of sulfonated derivatives of hydroquinone. Benzo[a]phenanthridine-5-ones (156) (159) were synthesized by photo-induced substitution and cycloaddition of 3-chloroisoquinolin-l-ones... [Pg.118]
