Our intention in this chapter is to examine the challenges of extracting identihers from chemistry-related documents and the conversion of those identihers into chemical structures. The authors of this work each have well over a decade of experience in chemical structure representation and systematic nomenclature. We have been deeply involved in the development of software algorithms and software for the generation of systematic names and the conversion of chemical identihers into chemical structures.9 Although we have our own biases concerning approaches to the problem of N2S conversion, we have done our utmost to be objective in our review of the subject and comparison of approaches and performance. [Pg.23]

The Production Department was not amused, because lower values had been expected. Quality Control was blamed for using an insensitive, unse-lective, and imprecise test, and thereby unnecessarily frightening top management. This outcome had been anticipated, and a better method, namely polarography, was already being set up. The same samples were run, this time in duplicate, with much the same results. A relative confidence interval of 25% was assumed. Because of increased specificity, there were now less doubts as to the amounts of this particular heavy metal that were actually present. The CAPRIE trial found that compared to aspirin (325 mg daily), clopidogrel (75 mg daily) was associated with RRR of 8.7% p = 0.043) for the composite endpoint of ischemic stroke, Ml, or vascular death among 19,185 subjects with stroke, MI, or peripheral arterial disease, but no significant reduction in the composite endpoint in the subgroup with stroke (RRR 7.3%, p = 0.26). No comparison of clopidogrel with aspirin in the acute stroke period was performed. Furthermore, stroke as an endoint was not significantly reduced in the stroke patients entered in this trial (RRR 8.0%, p = NS). [Pg.149]

Concerning the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, carbon nanomaterials have already been successfully employed as catalyst support media on a laboratory scale. The main attention in literature has been paid so far to subjects such as the comparison of functionalization techniques,9-11 the influence of promoters on the catalytic performance,1 12 and the investigations of metal particle size effects7,8 as well as of metal-support interactions.14,15 However, research was focused on one nanomaterial type only in each of these studies. Yu et al.16 compared the performance of two different kinds of nanofibers (herringbones and platelets) in the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. A direct comparison between nanotubes and nanofibers as catalyst support media has not yet been an issue of discussion in Fischer-Tropsch investigations.
