Styragel Poly

FIGURE I 1.3 Analysis of poly(l, 4-butylene terephthalate) usinga Waters Alliance narrow-bore GPC system. Columns 4.6 X 300 mm Styragel HR 2, HR 3, and HR 4. Mobile phase hexafluoroisopropanol. 0.35 ml/min at 30 C. (Chromatogram courtesy of Peter Alden, Waters Corp.)... [Pg.333]

Materials. GMC and PCLS were synthesized by free radical solution polymerization initiated by benzoyl peroxide as described previously (5,6). Nearly mono and polydisperse polystyrenes were obtained from Pressure Chemical Co. and the National Bureau of Standards respectively. Molecular weight and polydispersity were determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) using a Water Model 244 GPC, equipped with a set (102-106 A) of —Styragel columns using THF as the elution solvent. The molecular parameters of the above three polymers are listed in Table I. The copolymer, poly(GMA-co-3-CLS), contained 53.5 mole % 3-CLS and 46.5 mole % GMA, as determined by chlorine elemental analysis. The structure of the copolymer is shown in Figure 1. [Pg.242]

Samples of resin A and resin C which were shown by TMA to be the two best MF resins were analysed by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). A Waters 515 HPLC pump and GPC system were used and the resins analysed through a Styragel HRl column (for determination of Mw between 100 and 5000) at an elution rate of 1 ml/min, after the column was calibrated with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG). The PEG samples used for calibration had Mw of 200,300,400,600,1000,2000,3400, 8000, 10 000. Each resin sample after having been disolved in dimethylformamide was tested after filtering through a 0.45 pm filter. A Waters 410 refiractometer was used as the detector. [Pg.216]

The molecular weight was determined by gel permeation chromatography on a p-Styragel 10 column with water as the mobile phase and poly(styrene sulfonate) was used to calibrate the column. Although there is some difference between the molecular weight of the graft polymer and homopolymer, the concept that the two polymers should have relatively similar molecular weights is commonly accepted . ... [Pg.172]

Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) Measurements. For determination of molar mass and molar mass distribution, the samples were prepared by dissolving the purified polymer solid in HPLC grade THF. The SEC was performed in THF at 25°C on a Knauer Chromatograph equipped with styragel columns and refractive index detector at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min. Poly(methyl methacrylate) standards from Polymer Standard Service were used for calibration. [Pg.124]
