Coil coating means the process of converting basis material strip into coated stock. Usually cleaning, conversion coating, and painting are performed on the basis material. Coil coating processes perform any two or more of the three operations. 

Galvanized basis material means zinc coated steel, galvanized brass, and other copper base strip that is processed in coil coating.

Clockspring n. Slipping action in coil coating, usually at the center of a coil of the strip during the recoiling operation. 

Rewind n. In the coil coating industry, the apparatus used to recoil the strip after it is coated. 

Roiiformer In the coil coating industry, a machine that bends continuous strip into various shapes by a series of revolving metal wheels or discs. 

Skipping n. In coil coating, an irregular paint application usually occurring when improper contact is made between the applicator roll and the strip. 

Strip coating n. Strip coating or coil coating is the method of application of a coating to raw metal strip before its fabrication into finished products. 

Coil Coating n High speed process which applies paint and other coatings to a continuous flat coil of metal. A continuous coil of metal is unwound, cleaned, surface-treated, coated, heat-cured, cooled and rewound in one operation. The coated coil is subsequently unwound and formed into any number of products, such as house siding, Venetian blinds, and automotive and appliance parts. Also called Strip Coating. 

Ribbing n In the coil coating industry, longitudinal streaks that do not flow out on painted strip. 

Coil-coated strip in aluminium alloys is not prone to this type of corrosion. After the introduction of new lacquering techniques by electrostatic deposition of powders on profiles or sheets in aluminium alloys of the 3000,50(X) and 60(X) series, filiform corrosion appeared in the 1980s, mainly in the coastal areas of Northern Europe. 

Coil coating refers to the application in a continuous process of a coating to a steel strip. The common coil coatings are based on amine alkyds, epoxies, vinyl alkyds, solution vinyls, thermoset resins, solvent-type... 

In addition to the above subcategories, porcelain enameling on continuous strip is a subdivision within this industry. However, because there are only two plants in the U.S. producing this product, a separate subcategory is not necessary. These plants start with coils of steel, aluminum, or aluminized steel, porcelain enamel them and either recoil them for sale to metal fabricators or shear them into pieces for use as architectural panels or chalkboards. The estimated production was 2.0 x 106 m2 (22 x 106 ft2). This figure represents the area of enamel applied. For multiple coats, the area for each coat is considered.
