Blinds Venetian

Baffle separators of the Venetian blind, V, W, and wave types are widely used for spray removal. They have small space requirements and low pressure drops. They operate by diverting the gas stream and ejecting the droplets onto the collector baffles. Efficiencies of single stages may be only 40-60%, but by adding multiple stages, efficiencies approaching 100% may be obtained. [Pg.476]

Diffusion was veiy slow. The earliest clear Chinese reference to a windmill occurs only in 1219. The Chinese adopted the horizontal rotor used in Central Asia, but equipped it with pivoted blades, like Venetian blinds. These windmills did not require shielding walls like Central Asian mills, and could tap wind from any quarter. [Pg.694]

Dynode strings can be constructed in many ways and the response time and range of linearity of the detector depend on the configuration. In the Venetian blind configuration (Fig. 2.21c) the dynodes are wide strips of material placed at an angle of 45° with respect to the electron cascade axis. This system offers a large input area to the incident primary particles. The advantage is that the dynodes are easily placed in line and the dimensions... [Pg.67]

Venetian blinds a prespecified number of subvalidations (A) are done, by removing every Ath sample in the calibration data, where the A different subsets result from starting at sample 1, sample 2,. .. sample A. [Pg.411]

For time-series data, the contiguous block method can provide a good assessment of the temporal stability of the model, whereas the Venetian blinds method can better assess nontemporal errors. For batch data, one can either specify custom subsets where each subset is assigned to a single batch (i.e., leave one batch out cross-validation), or use Venetian blinds or contiguous blocks to assess within-batch and between-batch prediction errors, respectively. For blocked data that contains replicates, one must be very careful with the Venetian blinds and contiguous block methods to select parameters such that the rephcate sample trap and the external subset traps, respectively, are avoided. [Pg.411]

Acetate and propionate are widely used in eyeglass frames because their properties are well adapled to the post-finishing operations needed. Cellulosics arc frequently used for a variety of home furnishing products, such as table edging and Venetian blind worlds, and fixtures. The clarity of the finished plastic is desirable for such applications... [Pg.312]

Putting up the Venetian blinds was far more complicated than I had anticipated it seemed like a difficult puzzle with more than a few pieces missing. [Pg.57]

In the simplest form of a pulley, the grooved wheel is attached to seme immovable object, such as a ceiling or beam. When a person pulls down on one end of the pulley rope, an object at the opposite end of the repe is raised. In a fixed pulley of this design, the mechanical adwitage is cne. That is, a person can lift a weight equal to the force applied. The advantage of the pulley is me of direction. An object can be made to move upward or downward with such a pulley. Venetian blinds are a simple example of the fixed pulley. [Pg.188]

The Panel Bed Filter exposes a large number of sand surfaces for collecting deposits of fly ash. Louvered walls, somewhat resembling Venetian blind, hold a sand bed in a tall relatively narrow panel . Gas flows in the horizontal direction across the sand bed, and the dust in the gas deposits forming a filter cake upon tbe sand surfaces at the gas-entry face of the panel. [Pg.731]

B. Speed. Because of the smaller dimensions of the side-on, anode rise times of 2 nsec are easy to achieve, while a standard Venetian blind end-on tube has 20-nsec rise times. The expensive fast-linear focused end-on tubes can approach the side-on rise time. [Pg.112]
