Striatopallidal neuron

Gerfen CR, Engber TM, Mahan LC, Susel Z, Chase TN, Monsma FJ Jr, Sibley DR (1990) Di and D2 dopamine receptor-regulated gene expression of striatonigral and striatopallidal neurons. [Pg.329]

The segregation or abundance of Di and D2 DA receptor subtypes on the direct and indirect striatal projection neurons indicates that the dopaminergic input arising from midbrain cell groups affects differentially the function of the striatal neuronal populations. At the striatal level, DA appears to facilitate the striatonigral neurons of the direct pathway through Di receptors, and to inhibit the striatopallidal neurons of the indirect pathway through D2 receptors. [Pg.51]

Robertson GS, Vincent SR, Fibiger HC (1992) D, and D2 dopamine receptors differentially regulate c-fos expression in striatonigral and striatopallidal neurons. Neuroscience 49 285-296. [Pg.193]

While the dopamine depleted striatum provides a good model for study of the selective effects of D1 and D2 receptor stimulation these effects are abnormal in the sense that the pharmacologic treatments that alter gene regulation in the lesioned striatum are not paralleled in the unlesioned striatum. These differences in effect are not due to a redistribution of the receptor subtypes, as the segregated localization of the D1 and D2 receptor subtypes to striatonigral and striatopallidal neurons occurs in both the lesioned... [Pg.448]
