Street Sweeper

Despite the environmental benefits of natural gas vehicles, large numbers of compressed natural gas stations need to be built or compressed natural gas will never be more than a niche fuel servicing large fleets of buses, cabs, and delivei y trucks that can be fueled at a central location. Nonroad short-range vehicles such as forklifts, backhoes, street sweepers, and airport ground support equipment are also ideally suited for natural gas use.

On March 23, 1944, however, something happened. Nevertheless, these possible negative health effects have become a growing concern also among job categories that are occupationally exposed to urban PM. In fact, policemen, traffic wardens, professional drivers (tram, bus, taxi, lorry and truck drivers), roadside vendors, postal workers, street sweepers and other outdoor urban workers spend most of their work time exposed to urban PM. Although it has been difficult to demonstrate the relative risk of death or illness associated with PM, researchers have reported a number of health effects on workers (Gamble and Lewis 1996). In this section we review the adverse health effects observed in workers exposed to urban PM. 

It is possible to replace the air in inflatable tires by polyurethane foam. This is feasible for low-speed vehicles used in road construction, service equipment, snowplows, street sweepers, as well as many other applications. The two components are blended together to produce the resilient foam in the tire which is then not susceptible to flats or punctures, a feature which reduces downtime and tire replacement costs. Polyurethane foam (closed cell) has a thermal conductivity of 0.022 Wm and is usually covered with aluminum foil to reduce the heat loss due to the transmission of radiation.
