Stray field

A second important need for some guidance system lies in stray electric fields. Clearly, a sufficiently large potential arranged transversely to an ion beam can serve to deflect ions away from the intended direction. Such stray fields can be produced easily by sharp edges or points on the inside of a mass spectrometer and even more so in an ion guide itself. Considerable care is needed in the construction and design of mass spectrometers to reduce these effects to a minimum. [Pg.372]

Switching-Field Distribution. Both and have a strong relation with the recording process. determines the maximum output signal of a recording medium and hence the signal-to-noise ratio. ascertains how easily data can be recorded and erased or changed, but it also determines the maximum head field. On the other hand it also controls the ease with which data can be destroyed, eg, by stray fields. The lower the the more sensitive the medium is to all kinds of fields. In this way, influences the noise level as well. The squareness ratio S (= /Af ) can also be derived from the... [Pg.172]

Note Wherever a cable lead connecting the above devices (such as for RTDs) has to pass through a magnetic field, it may be screened with tinned copper-braided wires to nullify the effect of stray fields. The field may distort the readings. [Pg.308]

The integral is taken along a trajectory I parallel to the optical axis, passing inside and outside the specimen, and which must include stray fields V(f, z) and Az(r, z) are the electrostatic potential and the z component of the magnetic vector potential A(f,z), respectively E a factor that becomes the accelerating voltage in the non-relativistic... [Pg.140]

Under such circumstances, spin density diffusometry turned out to be more favorable. We are not discussing solvent intrusion experiments with solid-like materials, as they are typically carried out with the aid of stray field imaging [24]. [Pg.209]

Influence on processes in the vacuum chamber by magnetic stray fields and stray ions from the sputter-ion pump. [Pg.52]

A common arrangement of a PZT bimorph is to pole both plates in the same direction (normal to the plane). When it is used, both outer electrodes are grounded. The driving voltage is applied to the center electrode. Such an arrangement reduces the stray field of the applied voltage to a minimum, and simplifies mounting. [Pg.222]
