Storage principles

However, any LNG usage includes cryogenic tanks. Therefore, prevalent tank types and storage principles have been drawn up for tanks used for LNG storage and transport. [Pg.131]

Storage of flammables and combustibles requires special attention. This discussion covers a few basic storage principles. However, applicable sections of the National Fire Code have greater details for particular storage matters focused on fire protection. [Pg.234]

The effect can be compensated for by using higher performance pumps with higher compression ratio or additional pumps (differentially pumped systems for source and analyser). Ion trap instruments do not exhibit this behaviour because of their ion storage principle. [Pg.334]

There are three types of widely discussed energy storage principles of supercapacitors found in the literature the electric double-layer (EDL) principle, surface redox reaction-based pseudocapacitive charge storage mechanism, and the hybrid type formed by combining the EDL and pseudocapacitive charge storage mechanisms [5, 7, 16]. [Pg.166]

The enhanced concentration at the surface accounts, in part, for the catalytic activity shown by many solid surfaces, and it is also the basis of the application of adsorbents for low pressure storage of permanent gases such as methane. However, most of the important applications of adsorption depend on the selectivity, ie, the difference in the affinity of the surface for different components. As a result of this selectivity, adsorption offers, at least in principle, a relatively straightforward means of purification (removal of an undesirable trace component from a fluid mixture) and a potentially useflil means of bulk separation. [Pg.251]

A special implementation of the CD-R disk is the Photo-CD by Kodak which is a 5.25 in. WORM disk employing the dye-in-polymer principle for storage of up to 100 sHdes /pictures on a CD (after data compression) with the possibhity of interactive picture processing. [Pg.140]

This new optical data storage device is reported to be robust and nonvolatile. The response time for the write—read beam is in the subnanosecond range, and no refreshing is requked for long-term retention of trapped charges (95). The basic principle may be appHed to other, similar photoconductive materials. [Pg.417]

Tanks are used in innumerable ways in the chemical process iadustry, not only to store every conceivable Hquid, vapor, or soHd, but also ia a number of processiag appHcations. For example, as weU as reactors, tanks have served as the vessels for various unit operations such as settling, mixing, crystallisation (qv), phase separation, and heat exchange. Hereia the main focus is on the use of tanks as Hquid storage vessels. The principles outlined, however, can generally be appHed to tanks ia other appHcations as weU as to other pressure-containing equipment. [Pg.308]

The industrial economy depends heavily on electrochemical processes. Electrochemical systems have inherent advantages such as ambient temperature operation, easily controlled reaction rates, and minimal environmental impact (qv). Electrosynthesis is used in a number of commercial processes. Batteries and fuel cells, used for the interconversion and storage of energy, are not limited by the Carnot efficiency of thermal devices. Corrosion, another electrochemical process, is estimated to cost hundreds of millions of dollars aimuaUy in the United States alone (see Corrosion and CORROSION control). Electrochemical systems can be described using the fundamental principles of thermodynamics, kinetics, and transport phenomena. [Pg.62]

Fixed-roof atmospheric tanks require vents to prevent pressure changes which would othei wise result from temperature changes and withdrawal or addition of liquid. API Standard 2000, Venting Atmospheric and Low Pressure Storage Tanks, gives practical rules for vent design. The principles of this standard can be applied to fluids other than petroleum products. Excessive losses of volatile liquids, particularly those with flash points below 38°C (100°F), may result from the use of open vents on fixed-roof tanks. Sometimes vents are manifolded and led to a vent tank, or the vapor may be extracted by a recov-eiy system. [Pg.1016]

Storage and receiving are activities that can greatly contribute to a safe and economic operation. It is here that quality control can be achieved at minimal cost. Label verification and other quality assurance measures can increase the confidence level that the correct chemicals have arrived, thereby potentially circumventing the use of wrong chemicals. Wrongly shipped chemicals can be returned to the manufacturer with minimal or no cost to the batch operation owner. As with all processes and activities it is of great importance to apply the principles of inherent safety, in particular the minimization and attenuation principles (CCPS G- 41). [Pg.106]
