Storage bulk material

The product will be shipped in bulk by truck and hopper cars as well as in 50 lb bags, 200 lb fiber cartons, and 1,000 lb boxes.10 Since there are many small customers, it will be assumed that 30% is shipped in 50 lb bags, and 15% each in 200 lb cartons and 1,000 lb boxes. Most of these small customers will not have a large storage facility. To provide good service, a 60-day supply of each product stored in bags, cartons, and drums will be specified. A 25-day storage facility for bulk materials will be constructed. [Pg.72]

Another example of scale-up effects relates to the storage of chemically unstable substances. Well-established procedures can be followed on a small scale. In a commercial unit, the storage of such materials must be reviewed from the standpoint of critical mass. The heat removal capacity of the equipment must be substantially larger than the spontaneous exothermic rate of heat release in the bulk material. Temperature gradients must also be considered. [Pg.138]

Heat, and sometimes gas, transfer from the core of a bulk material, also influences auto-ignition and explosion. The concept of critical mass is not limited to nuclear explosives (though shape is also important). Some entries in this text, such as sodium chlorate, ammonium nitrate and ammonium perchlorate, have proved extremely destructive dining industrial storage by the tens of tonnes, but are incapable of explosion at the ten gramme scale. Many other entries are for hazards significant only beyond laboratory scale [1]. [Pg.379]

The preparation and study of nanoparticles has attracted a remarkable academic and industrial research effort because of their potential applications, ranging from fundamental studies in quantum physics, fabrication of composite materials, information storage/optoelectronics, immunoassays, to catalysts. The precise control of size and chemical behavior (stabihty and reactivity) by means of the synthesis itself is still one of the main targets because the direct correlation of the new intriguing properties with the particle size which is just between a molecule and a bulk material [140]. [Pg.395]

Preplans are similar to floor plans except they will often show features on the outside of the building in addition to the floor plan, although they may have somewhat less detail on the interior of the building. Preplans are frequently made for businesses, churches, and similar types of commercial buildings. These plans are often carried on the trucks for reference by the crews at an incident. A preplan may include information on access roads around the building, connections to sprinkler systems, location of gas or bulk material storage, locations of fire hydrants, information on alarm systems in the building, and other critical information for the crews. [Pg.224]

Description of the manufacturing parameters that are important to product performance and the rationale for the selection of these parameters (e.g., processing time, temperature, drying rate, mixer speeds, order of mixing, microbiological control, pressure, spray rate, storage of in-process bulk material). Description of rework/reprocessing procedures, or if applicable, state that product will not be reprocessed. [Pg.333]
