Sloat, Long-Term Evaluation of a Behavior-Based Method for Improving Safety Performance A Meta-Analysis of 73 Interrupted Time Series Replications Safety Science, 32(1999) pp. 1-18, and Thomas R. Krause, Leading with Safety (New York Wiley Sons, 2003). [Pg.222]

The process of identifying hazards in the working interface, measuring the frequency of their occurrence, and recognizing safety barriers and solutions constitutes a continuous improvement cycle for safety that creates a positive safety climate and drives cultural improvement. This process isolates specific behaviors to target for improvement. It also provides a common language for safety and stimulates both horizontal and vertical communication about important safety issues. [Pg.223]

Although leaders often anticipate treatment team resistance to behavior measurement, we find that good leadership can readily overcome such resistance. Leaders are often surprised at how effectively an implementation team can champion the measurement process and secure the willing participation of treatment team members and peers. The behavior measurement process contributes in several ways to successful, far-reaching, deep cultmre change  [Pg.223]

As expected, when safety projects are successfully implemented and hazards mitigated, adverse event rates tend to decrease significantly.  [Pg.223]
