Gravity, standard

The quantity g is called the acceleration due to gravity and is equal to m2G/r2. At sea level and 45° latitude on the Earth (i.e., the condition for standard gravity, gstd) the value of g is 32.174ft/s2 or 9.806m/s2. The value of g is obviously different on the moon (different r and m2) and varies slightly over the surface of the earth as well (since the radius of the earth varies with both elevation and latitude). [Pg.17]

One cubic foot of water weighs 62.4 lbf under conditions of standard gravity. [Pg.41]

Heparin is an anticoagulant that prevents the formation of blood clots. Like insulin, it is also measured in units of activity. IV heparin may be administered by standard gravity flow or electronic infusion devices. The normal adult heparinizing dosage is 20,000-40,000 units per 24 hours. In general, IV heparin is ordered in units per hour. Heparin may also be ordered by the physician to infuse at a predetermined flow rate in mL per hour. [Pg.208]

It is conventional to divide the specific impulse Jsp by g() (standard gravity, g0 = 9.81 m s-2) so that the resulting specific impulse Js has the unit s (seconds) ... [Pg.129]

Most commonly, one arm is evacuated and the manometer indicates the total pressure directly. A temperature correction is necessary to obtain the absolute pressure. This correction allows one to convert the observed reading p(mm) in millimeters of mercury to Torr (1 Torr = 1/760 atm = 1 mm Hg at 0°C and standard gravity) ... [Pg.594]

A unit of pressure equal to that exerted by a column of mercury 1 mm high at 0°C and standard gravity (1 mm Hg). Named after Evangelista Torricelli (1608-1647), inventor of the mercury barometer. [Pg.414]

STANDARD GRAVITY. For certain purposes, the acceleration of free fall in the earth s gravitational field is used. From deductions based on Eq. (1,2), this quantity, denoted by g, is nearly constant. It varies slightly with latitude and height above sea level. For precise calculations, an arbitrary standard g has been set, defined by... [Pg.9]

Construction details for Glasshopper I consist of a filament wound (FW) RP car body, RP/balsawood core sandwich panel bulkheads and slope sheets, steel side sills and shear plates, steel bolster webs, and RP hatch covers. Standard running gear and safety appliances were utilized, as were standard gravity outlets. Several changes in construction details... [Pg.531]
