Stage 3 Development of design concepts

This is the most important and also unique and fascinating stage of the entire TRIZ procedure. It is the stage when the entire power of TRIZ is suddenly revealed, and a design concept, or a class of concepts, emerges. 

In the previous stage, problem formulation, both the problem s basic features and the technical contradiction have been identified. Now, they will be used to find inventive patterns, which might help to eliminate the identified technical contradiction. 

In the case of our example, the contradiction table (the intersection of the row weight and the column strength ) provides three inventive patterns, listed here in the order of the decreasing probability that they would be useful
