St. Andrew s cross

Two pictogrammes were added in 2005 under GHS for labelling chronic toxicity and harmful/irritant [91]. Chronic toxicity and other harmful properties were previously grouped with the toxic and very toxic under skull-and-crossbones label before GHS, a harmful or irritant substance was indicated by a St Andrew s Cross. 

Legend holds that Joseph of Arimathea also gave the Red Cross device to Prince Caradoc in his capacity of Defender of the Faith in Britain. From this, the Red or Rose Cross then became the device of the Christian flag of the British Church. It now dominates a St Andrew s Cross on the Union Jack. 

Johann Valentin Andrea, who organized the Christian Unions, is also considered the most likely author of the Rosiemeian manifesto Christian Rosencranz. He adopted armorial bearings of a St. Andrew s cross with four roses. 

The deeply meaningful symbol of a St. Andrew s cross was proudly worn at the establishment of the Royal Society where each fellow wore a St Andrew s cross of ribbon on the crown of his hat. ... 

The position of the letter M as an end word is also likely because tracing the inscription yields a St Andrew s cross. As we have seen, this was a very important symbol in Lord Anson s day. A St Andrew s cross is the symbol used in old initiation and sacrificial rites to represent resurrection. It is a symbol of Archangel Michael and the lineage of Melchizedek Priests. Within the Roman Catholic Church, it is the Signaculum Dei or Seal of God. 

Substances have to be classified as harmful if moderate amounts can have fatal effects or cause severe health problems. The labeling of harmful substances and preparations has to be done with the dedicated R-phrases and the hazard symbol St. Andrew s Cross (Xn) with the indication of danger harmful . The exact criteria are summarized in Table 3.6. 

For labeling the suspicious substances, the St. Andrew s Cross is also used with the indication of danger harmful . In order to distinguish this from acute toxicity, the R-phrase R 63 has to be used. Well-known chemicals of category 3 are shown in Figure 3.11. 

Substances of category 3, both 3 a and 3 b, have to be labeled with the danger symbol St Andrew s cross Xn, the danger identification harmful, and the R-phrase R 40. 

Substances classified as mutagenic category 3 have to be assigned the danger symbol St. Andrew s Cross, the danger identification harmfiil, and the risk phrase R 68. 

Hazard categories are identified by a pictorial symbol (e.g. skull and crossbones, St Andrew s cross, etc.), a symbol letter (e.g. T +, Xi, etc.) and an indication of danger (e.g. Very TOXIC, HARMFUL, etc.). These must appear on the label of any container or solvent so qualifying. RISK ( R ) Phrases are intended to warn users of the potential dangers of the use of a solvent. SAFETY ( S ) Phrases are intended to provide brief summary advice to users on precautions which should be taken in handling the solvent. R and S Phrases are identified by number. They must appear in full on the label and in the Safety Data Sheet.

Herve Clavier and Steven P. Nolan, now at St. Andrew s University, found (Adv. Synth. Cat. 2008, 550, 2959) that the indenylidene Ru complex 1 was an excellent pre-catalyst for alkene metathesis. A combination of 1 and the ligand 2 effected cross metathesis of 3 and 4 in just 15 minutes under microwave heating. Robert H. Grubbs of Caltech designed Organic Lett. 2008, i 0, 2693) the Ru catalyst 6 for the preparation of tri- and tetrasubsti-tuted alkenes, as illustrated by the conversion of 7 to 8. The catalyst 6 also worked well for cross metathesis and ring opening metathesis pol nnerization (ROMP). 

The volimtary aid societies include the St John Ambulance, St Andrew s Ambulance (in Scotland), British Red Cross and the Women s Royal Volimtary Service (WRVS). There are also a number of smaller specialist bodies such as the British Association for Immediate Care (BASICS) and BASICS Scotland.
