Sprockets and chains

Amongst the many other applications for acetal resins should be mentioned links in conveyor belts, moulded sprockets and chains, blower wheels, cams, fan blades, check valves, pump impellers, carburettor bodies, blow-moulded aerosol containers and plumbing components such as valve stems and shower heads. 

The emulsifying equipment has been set up as a self-contained trailer-mounted unit. The unit used at the 1975 field trial in Lufkin, Texas is designed to accept molten sulfur and hot asphalt from road tankers. The sulfur and asphalt flow rates are controlled by two proportioning pumps driven by a sprocket and chain arrangement from a common shaft. This arrangement enables the sulfur content of the binder to be varied from 20% to 50%. 

The market demand for acetal resins in the United States and Canada was 368 million lb in 1997. Applications for acetal resins include gears, rollers, plumbing components, pump parts, fan blades, blow molded aerosol containers, and molded sprockets and chains. Type of drive can be an internal rotating shaft with three blades attached. The shaft extends outside and can have a driven pulley. It generally has a sprocket and chain drive, a gear box or a VFD motor. External girth gear drive can also be provided to the rotary screen if there are more than one concentric screens for separation of two-or three-sized particles. This will depend on length and diameter of each screen and may not always be possible.

Inspect sprockets for worn teeth and abnormal wear on the sides of the sprockets. (The question is Can the sprockets and chain last for two more weeks without equipment stoppage ) If the sprockets and chain can last two weeks then write a corrective maintenance work order in order for this job to be planned and scheduled with the correct parts. If the sprocket cannot last two weeks, then change all sprockets and the chain. Set and check sheave and chain alignment and tension. WARNING When... 

The performance of the entire conveyor or drive installation depends largely on sprocket-chain interaction. So choosing the right sprocket is as important as choosing the right chain. The sprocket and chain designs must be compatible, and for this reason, sprockets normally should be obtained from the manufacturer of the chain. 

It is suggested that the drive designer select a small sprocket and chain from at least the next smaller and next larger pitch sizes. The designer may then select the chain that best meets the user s particular requirements. 

In normal chainsaw use, replace the sprocket each time you replace the chain. You can rotate two new chains with one rim sprocket for longer sprocket life, but don t couple an old sprocket to a new chain or a new sprocket to an old chain—this will damage both sprocket and chain. All belts, pulleys, sprockets and chains, flywheels, shafting and shaft projections, gears, couplings, other rotating or reciprocating part, or any movable portion within 7 feet of the floor or working platform is to be eflectively guarded.
