Location and application. Spray booths or spray rooms are to be used to enclose or confine all operations. Spray-finishing operations shall be located as provided in sections 201 through 206 of the Standard for Spray Finishing Using Flammable and Combustible Materials, NFPA No. 33-1969.

Spray booths or spray rooms shall be used to confine all spray-finishing operations.

Example Emissions measured in a spray-room The usual technique of measuring VOC emissions in plants by means of the FID according to VDI 3481/page 3 has the shortcomings that individual components in the gas mixture cannot be measured separately, but only determined as total carbon. Also the device needs to be placed in the immediate vicinity of the measuring point and requires frequent calibration. 

Figure 17.1.6 shows the results of emission investigations in the spray-room of a joiner s with and without ventilation. Windows and doors were closed. The vamisher was standing in fi-ont of a spray-wall, opposite to him was placed a platform rack truck for shelving the varnished parts. Those areas in the joiner s, which showed roughly the same emission values of n-butyl acetate, are marked on each drawing.
