Spray nozzles flow rate

The droplet size of a spray is some average droplet size as discussed in Chap. 23. A commonly reported droplet size is the Sauter mean diameter, SMD or D32. Droplet size depends on the type of nozzle, flow rate, feed pressure and spray pattern.

Improve spray distrihiition. Improve atomization hy lowering hinder fluid viscosity. Increase wetted area of the bed per unit mass per unit time hy increasing the number of spray nozzles, lowering spray rate, increase air pressure or flow rate of two-fluid nozzles.

Corexit 9527 is a water-and ethylene glycol monobutyl ether-dissolved dispersant. The nature of the surface-active agent has not been disclosed. Laboratory tests were conducted using 0.5-mm thick, fresh Alberta Sweet-Mixed Blend crude oil treated with Corexit 9527 dispersant applied from an overhead spray boom [165]. The effects on dispersion efficiency of mixing jet pressure, mixing jet flow rate, jet standoff distance, and vessel speed were evaluated. The system operates with a nozzle pressure of 7000 kPa, a flow rate of 55 liter/min per nozzle, and nozzles positioned approximately 0.6 m from the water surface. In laboratory tests, such a system was capable of dispersing 80% to 100% of the surface slick. 

There are a variety of nozzles that can be provided to hoses and monitors. They are capable of projecting a solid, spray or fog stream of water depending on the requirements and at varying flow rates. Straight stream nozzles have a greater reach and penetration, while fog and water sprays will absorb more heat because the water droplets absorb more heat due to greater surface area availability. Fog and water spray nozzles are sometimes used to assist in the dispersion of vapor releases. 

In electrostatic atomization, an electrical potential is applied between a liquid to be atomized and an electrode placed in the spray at a certain distance from liquid discharge nozzle. As a result of the mutual repulsion of like charges accumulated on the liquid surface, the surface becomes unstable and disrupts when the pressure due to the electrostatic forces exceeds the surface tension forces of the liquid. Droplets will be generated continuously if the electrical potential is maintained above a critical value consistent with liquid flow rate. Both DC and AC systems have been employed to provide high electrical potentials for generating fine droplets. Many configurations of electrode have been developed, such as hypodermic needles, sintered bronze filters, and cones.
