Spot decontamination

Absorb contaminating agent with absorbent materials (e.g., rub with flour followed by wet tissues or use military M291 resin kits for spot decontamination of skin only). 

One additional consideration, which is contrary to the general advice about decontamination, must be remembered. It is quite possible that the condition of the casualty described above, who had a vapor exposure and administered the contents of his MARK I kits, continues to worsen because he also has had a liquid exposure, which is being absorbed through the skin. A break in his protective garb should be sought if one is found, the skin under it should be quickly spot-decontaminated using whatever liquid is available (preferably bleach, but saline or water will help). All potential points of leaks and other hot spots have to be identified in the stage of design. The decontamination procedures in case of accident have to be elaborated. The specification of the equipment for eventual decontamination and the means of decontamination are defined in laboratory instructions and manuals. All necessary safeguards and security systems are the elements of the project design. In case of emergency all means limiting the decontamination spreading out have to be used. 

The detector is designed to serve as an on-the-spot sensor for identification of unknown solid or liquid substances for the existence of CWAs, dmgs, bioagents, and TICs, all within a few minutes. The HazMat ID is the waterproof version of the Travel/f that can identify simple mixtures through automated subtraction software. The unit can operate in hostile environments and can be immersed in decontamination solution without harm to the internal mechanism. 

Carbon steel pipes used by experiments were cut from the secondary circuit. They were chemically decontaminated but rest activity, presented mainly on the spot of corrosion layer rests, was higher than that for free release. Stainless steel pipes were cut from CO2 purification system that had been decontaminated before dismantling.
