SPLIT-IRON

As alluded to above, input data for total iron, Fe(II) and/or Fe(III) are accepted by the model, with solute modeling calculations done using whatever data are input. If either Fe(II) or Fe(III) are present, Fe(total) is ignored if Fe(II) only is present, speciation is done among Fe(II) complexes only, and likewise for Fe(III). To accomplish this, the reactions of the iron section have been extensively rewritten (10) and a procedure, named SPLIT IRON, has been added, which performs the mass balance calculations separately for Fe(II) and Fe(III) when they are input separately. An E value is calculated from the computed activities of Fe " and Fe " and may, by user option, be used to distribute other redox species in lieu of an input E value. If only Fe(total) is input, the input E value is used to distribute all redox species including Fe " " and Fe " if there is only Fe(total) input, and no input E value, all Fe calculations are bypassed. [Pg.824]

The most well-known expansion bolt is made by Rawibolt and consists of a split iron shell held together by a steel ferrule at one end and a spring wire clip at the other end. Tightening the bolt draws up an expanding bolt inside the split iron shell, forcing the iron to expand and grip the masonry. Rawibolts are for heavy-duty masonry fixings. [Pg.236]

In general, four types of sprockets are available for roller chains. They are steel plate without hubs, cast iron or steel with hubs on one or both sides, split type, double-duty type. [Pg.443]

The type of sprocket to be used depends entirely upon local or load conditions. The steel plate without hubs is the cheapest and is furnished for bolting to suitable hubs or flanges. The cast-iron or steel type fitted with hubs is made for direct mounting upon shaft and is fastened in place by either keys or setscrews or a combination of both. The split type is almost a necessity when the hub is mounted on a shaft with other pulleys or sheaves. Its construction facilitates installation and removal, but because of its extra cost it is usually not recommended except when solid hubs cannot be installed. The double-duty sprockets are made with steel rims or plates that may be removed or replaced without disturbing the hub, shaft, bearing, etc. Plates and hubs can be obtained either solid or split. They are particularly adapted for jobs requiring changing of drive ratios or where replacements must be made quickly. [Pg.443]

The simplest iron-sulfur centers, which were first discovered in ru-bredoxins, consist of one iron ion coordinated by a distorted tetrahedron of cysteinyl sulfur atoms. This environment provides a weak ligand field giving a spin equal to and 2 when the ion is Fe(III) and Fe(II), respectively. It also determines the splitting of the ground spin manifold, and consequently the characteristics of the EPR spectrum. This splitting is generally described in the framework of the spin Hamiltonian ... [Pg.423]
