SPIGOT

Push -on joints (Fig. 10-137) require diametral control of the end of the pipe. They are used for brittle materials. Pipe, fittings, and valves are furnished with the bells cast on one or more ends. Considerable force is required to push the spigot through the O ring this is reduced by the extension on the O ring, which causes the friction of the pipe to elongate the cross sec tion of the main portion of the O ring. [Pg.958]

Table 10-30 lists sizes 1 to 12 in, and larger sizes can be obtained. Bell-and-spigot pipe is produced in the weights and dimensions shown in Table 10-30 fittings are available. New hubless pipe utilizing TFE gaskets and stainless steel clamps to make a mechanical joint are now available (the trade name is Duriron MJ). [Pg.971]

CViemical Ware Acidproof chemical-stoneware pipe and fittings withstand most acid, alkah, or other corrosives, the main exception being hydrofluoric acid. The range of sizes made with the bell-and-spigot joint and with plain butt ends is shown in Table 10-40. [Pg.976]

Types of Jigs A jig is essentially an open tank filled with water and provided with a horizontal screen on the top and a hutch compartment fitted with a spigot (Fig. 19-27 ). A layer of coarse, heavy particles, known as ragging, is placed on the top of the screen onto which the feed slurry is introduced. The feed moves over the ragging and the separation takes place as the bed is pulsated by a different mechanical device. The heavy particles are collected into the hutch compartment and removed through the spigot while the hghter particles are made to overflow from the top or the tank. [Pg.1782]

Many articles, bottles and containers in particular, are made by blow moulding techniques of which there are many variations. In one typical process a hollow tube is extruded vertically downwards on to a spigot. Two mould halves close on to the extrudate (known in this context as the parison ) and air is blown through the spigot to inflate the parison so that it takes up the shape of the mould. As in injection moulding, polymers of low, intermediate and high density each find use according to the flexibility required of the finished product. [Pg.233]

Internal coatings are usually applied at the factory and no difficulty exists in field construction if flanges, screwed, or spigot and socket joints are used, nor is there any difficulty with welded pipes above, say, 750 mm diameter, where patching can be carried out on the joints from the inside. Repair of internal coating on smaller-bore welded pipes presents many problems, which have not yet been satisfactorily overcome for all conditions. [Pg.668]

This is a fairly modern development in which the joint is formed from a rubber sleeve which rolls along the pipe as it is pushed into the spigot of the next pipe, to form a very strong joint, which is highly resistant to vibration. ... [Pg.911]

The Southside, a gin lemonade that is baptismal-font water to the traditional East Coast society set, is most typically a spring and summer refreshment, but as Bruce Snyder, the restaurant manager at the 2f Club, which did business with me, observed, The spigot never shuts. That means, according to Mr. Snyder s thirty-six years of experience with his clientele, you retire the white shoes, straw hats, linen and seersucker on Labor Day, but the Southside sails on through, brisk autumn seas ahead. Dark rum, substituting occasionally for gin, relieves any boredom. [Pg.118]
