When sowing crops, drilling in an east-west direction can provide better shadowing of interrow space and light interception by the crop. The occurrence of Apera spica-venti could be reduced more under erectophile cultivars drilled from east-west compared to north-south. The effect of planophile cultivars was similar in both drilling directions tested (Kbpke 2000). 

Sodium lodoplodinate Paper. This test-paper changes from its original pink colour to violet by the action of dichloroethyl sulphide, the intensity of the violet varying with the concentration of dichloroethyl sulphide. The papers are prepared by immersing strips of filter paper in an aqueous 0 2% solution of sodium iodoplatinate just before use. To test for the presence of dichloroethyl sulphide, the treated paper is exposed in a damp condition to the gas to be examined. Sensitivity 0 02 mgm. (Spica). 

In carrying out this test in practice, Spica recommends that the air under examination be passed through a U-tube of 4-5 mm. diameter, having a small bulb at the bend in which a few drops of the reagent are placed. In passing over the reagent, the air produces the characteristic turbidity.

Capillarisin Cirsimaritin Rhamno-citrin Artemisia Capillari Spica/Compositae Whole plant Three flavonoids and two coumarins, scoparone and scopoletin, were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of A. capillari. These compounds have been tested for their inhibitory effect on bovine lens aldose reductase (bovine-LAR) and rabbit platelet aggregation. Increased aldose reductase activity and platelet aggregation are considered as two causes of diabetic complications. Capillarisin exhibited a potent inhibitory effect on bovine-LAR. The post-neutron irradiation tests are underway within the scope of neutron irradiation program "Spica".
