As PGE-containing minerals are difficult to digest, the temperature at which the digestion step is carried through has a marked influence [9]. Blanks are important at a target element level lower than 1 pg kg . Spectral interferences in ICP-MS cannot be neglected and in most natural matrices they can cause severe overestimations of concentrations. Hence this influence quantity has to be considered and its contribution to the budget estimated when mass-dependent and mass-independent isotope ratio fractionation need to be studied. [Pg.176]

The collision/reaction interface looks to be a very interesting concept, which appears to offer a relatively straightforward, noncell-based solution to minimizing plasma- and matrix-based spectral interferences in ICP-MS. Each year more and more challenging applications appear in the public domain showing the capabilities of collision/reaction interface systems. If there is an interest in this approach, it is worth checking out the vendor application notes, which show the capabilities of the collision/reaction interface in many different, real-world matrices. ... [Pg.92]

In a relatively short time since their commercial introduction, r.f.-driven reaction cells and collision cells became a major every-day tool for reducing spectral interferences in ICP-MS. The major process that enables interference suppression in such cells is ion-molecule reactions that can be selected on the basis of different reactivities of an interference and an analyte. In many practical cases, many orders of magnitude of interference suppression are achieved through multiple reactive collisions of the interfering ions with a reaction gas. Efficient primary ion-molecule chemistry that distinguishes analyte ions from plasma-based interference ions is accompanied by efficient secondary reactions that create new isobaric interferences within the... [Pg.379]
