Specifications paint

For a specific paint application, a mixture of solvents is needed. The mixture is going to be identified by its ability to mix with water (total miscibility), normal boiling point (determines the solvent evaporation rate), the solubility parameter (determines if it is soluble in the paint) and molecular weight (size the candidate molecule).

Paints may also need to contain antifoaming and/or defoaming components since air can become incorporated into a paint during any or all of dispersing, transportation, mixing, filling, and application steps [483,780], Hydrophobic components, such as treated (hydrophobic) silicas or waxes, may be added to water-based paints in accordance with the principles described in Section 7.2.2, although there is a tendency to use quite specific antifoams for specific paints [780].

Ti02 particles have been traditionally interesting to study due to a wide variety of applications. Additives and fillers fulfill a variety of functions. Some additives modify specific paint properties such as the viscosity, the resistance to oxidation or the surface tension. Fillers are low-cost substances, such as titanium oxide or calcium carbonate, that increase the mass and the volume of paints. They also improve certain properties of the film, such as its abrasion resistance. 

On the other hand, industrial equipment such as regasification plants for liquid natural gas operating by seawater spraying and located in closed and polluted sites are usually protected by thermal or plasma projection coatings with aluminium-zinc alloys, and are additionally protected with specific paints. 

The specific paint formula itself is also important. Too much pigment, for example, can interfere with the smooth formation of a continuous film. In fact, any imbalance or excess of paint additives can potentially affect latex film formation.
